It has been several years since I have written a blog.
As life goes, there has been many changes including a move into another home.
I am currently a caregiver for a 93 year old Marine Veteran who is dealing with Dementia. Dementia is a horrible thing to experience. It is difficult to try to express yourself with words that are in your head but are no where to be found when you are trying to communicate your needs.
We use a white board and a dry erase marker to communicate as this gentleman’s hearing has been compromised by his history in the military and as a mechanic on aircraft. He IS a walking vault of historical knowledge through his experiences. I find his stories entertaining and request to hear more. If I am busy or running late and he remembers a story, I stop and listen. Whatever I was supposed to do can wait because time is most important when you are listening. I know many people prefer to rush off to their duties but after experiencing so many random deaths of dear friend’s and family … I stop, and I listen. This gentleman doesn’t have much more time on this earth and his stories are worth hearing.
He has been kind to me which surprises his family and friends. When I first met him he did not want me here at his home. I told him about my 1986 Monte Carlo SS, him being a mechanic of senile vehicles, decided I must be alright if I am holding onto this old car. So, once again, the Monte Carlo has carried me into my next chapter.
I will write more about this gentleman at a later date as I wish to hold onto as many memories as I can of him.
A blog about my current art activities will soon follow as well as some adventures that are in the making.
This is my check in for July 2021
